IDFuel, the Industrial Design Weblog

IDFuel, the Industrial Design Webloghas a nice article abt 3D renderings>"...If you took a look at the images in any of the galleries from Brazil, Lightwave, Maya, or 3ds MAX, you may have said "Hey, I can't get pictures to look that good, no matter what I do". The truth is, recent developments in lighting for rendering have made it easy to get many times more realism out of a render, but only if you know what tools to use. So, this TT, we're making sure the design community knows what's available in 3d lighting."

This Magazine: The Rebel Sell

in their article The Rebel Sell, Joseph Heath and Andrew Potter writes: "One of the most talked-about cinematic set-pieces in recent memory is the scene in Fight Club where the nameless narrator (Ed Norton) pans his empty apartment, furnishing it piece by piece with Ikea furniture. The scene shimmers and pulses with prices, model numbers and product names, as if Nortons gaze was drag-and-dropping straight out of a virtual catalogue. It is a great scene, driving the point home: the furniture of his world is mass-produced, branded, sterile. If we are what we buy, then the narrator is an Allen-key-wielding corporate-conformist drone."

As computers and the desktop metaphor reach virtual ubiquity in our daily lives, they also become objects we take for granted in daily use. The Desktop Subversibles application suite exploits this ubiquity by focusing on standard desktop activities like copy/paste, mouse movements, and clicks by adding networked and physical outputs to highlight these mundane activities' collective and collaborative potential. Desktop Subversibles capitalizes on the ubiquity of our interactions with computer desktops to convey awareness of activity and a sense of shared network space among the members of an online and physical community
